"And When My Life Is Over... Remember When We Were Together" -Karen Carpenter lyric

This page has a bunch of pictures of Karen Carpenter, throughout her career and her battle with anorexia. It includes a photo of the house where she died and the program from her funeral, which is at the end of the page.

"And When My Life Is Over... Remember When We Were Together... We Were One... and Now I'm Singing This Song For You" - Karen Carpenter died at age 32 while attempting to recover from anorexia.

What a loss for the world - her voice is haunting, isn't it?

The candid picture of Karen below, cluching a coffee mug, is probably the best expression of the pain Karen was in throughout her entire eating disorder War... even though the majority of the time she did not look like she does in this picture. Her facial expression says it all.

Above, there is a little photo of the house where Karen died.

It is in Downey, California, where Karen and Richard Carpenter's parents lived (the had siblings bought the house for their parents, complete with a music studio, at the height of their success). Karen Carpenter was staying with her parents the week that she died and actually died in this house, in an upstairs bedroom, which her parents kept for her when she visited...

Her body was found in the walk-in closet, she was getting dressed.

This house, ironically, is about four blocks away from where I work... at one of the residential locations for The Center For Discovery in Downey, California.

From time to time, I walk with the current group of Discovery clients over to the house and we stand there quietly.

Karen, I continue to hope that your passing helps further along the education and prevention of eating disorders, although it's been twenty years since we lost you, I still hear you singing and people know you and miss you! -Lisa
