Funny How We Think... Or Is It So Funny?
Funny how we think that being thin is the key to happiness, so we throw away our happiness in a desperate attempt to reach the key. Funny how we think that once we are thin we won't have a care in the world, when in reality it brings to us and others more cares than the world has room for. Funny how we think that we can control the food but don't realize when, in every case, the food begins to control us. Funny how we think that we will have a satisfying life when we become thin, and don't even realize that we are literally losing our lives in search of that satisfaction. Funny how we think that we can operate fine without fuel (food), but freak out when the speedometer in the car reads "empty". After all, it is the same kind of idea. Funny how we think that we are so fat and unwanted, while we are being told how thin we are and how much we are loved. Funny how we think that we will be perfect when we reach the "ideal weight", only to find that no weight is ideal and perfection is an impossible goal. Funny how we think that the models on TV are beautiful and praise-worthy and happy, yet we ignore our happiness and beauty and praiseworthiness in search of theirs. Funny how we think that we will feel wonderful when we lose just 5 more pounds, and think that the 30 pounds we've already lost mean nothing and don't matter. Funny how we think that it is okay for others to eat, but we are undeserving of it. Funny how we think, in that we desire help, but are too scared to tell people because we might get help. (Confusing, eh? Only e/d people would understand.) Funny how we think that not eating won't harm us, and yet we watch stubbornly as hundreds or thousands of people die every year from starvation. Funny how we think that we will be well-liked when we become thin, but we ignore our best friends and those who like us as more than friends already. Funny how we think that we can become anorexic or bulimic for a special occasion and then quit, not realizing the fact that eating disorders are as addictive as cocaine and just as fatal, damaging, and consequential. Funny how we think that the mirror and scales and sizes and TV speak the truth, but we believe that others are liars when they say that we are too thin and are causing damage to our bodies. Funny how we think that fat will kill us, and don't see how we may as well come face to face with starving lions, as that would have the same consequences as lack of food. Funny how we think that people without body fat have the great life, but don't realize how great our life is until it's too late and we are miserable. Funny how we think that we will love ourselves when we become thin, but when we get thin, there is none of us left to love. Funny how we think that God made a mistake in creating us, and we forget that God doesn't make mistakes; he makes miracles. We are his miracles.
